• 1935 to 1949: Despite the Second World War 1939-45 this did not deter the villages of Saxlingham and Field Dalling from carrying on with fund raising with dances, whist drives and concerts.

• November 1949: The Village Hall Committee approached Sir Dymoke Whyte regarding selling a parcel of land in the village.

• 1950: Negotiations for the purchase of land continued and resulted in an offer of the present site (part of the Cricket Meadow) for £10.

• February 1951: After 16 years, a second Public Meeting where the two villages confirmed that they wished to go ahead with the Hall project. £688 had been raised locally and a grant of £742 had been allocated by the Ministry of Education. • March 1951: A Standard Hut 72ft by 24ft was ordered from the Ministry of Defence for £60-10s-0d to be delivered by rail to Holt.

• 1951 to 1954: Negotiations to purchase the land continued with the solicitors of Sir Dymoke Whyte stalling on the issue of the vendor insisting to retain the right of ‘re-entry’ if a hall was not erected in 7 years

• Christmas 1954: All key documents in place (Trust Deed, Deeds to the Land, and funding) allowed construction to commence

• 28th May 1955: Village Hall opened by Sir Edmund Bacon, Lord Lieutenant, followed by a week of events in the Hall.

• 28th May 2005: 50th Anniversary celebrations
